The Maldives Intellectual Property Office was established to protect, promote and enforce intellectual property rights in the Maldives.  

Mandate of the Maldives Intellectual Property Office includes: 

      1. Registration of intellectual property 
      2. Maintaining and safeguarding an updated register of registrable intellectual property 
      3. Establishing and strengthening relations with regional and international intellectual property organizations, and obtaining technical assistance and advice from such organizations 
      4. Handling matters related to participation in international treaties concerning intellectual property, and implementing and administering obligations arising from such treaties; 
      5. Conducting research on developments in the field of intellectual property at regional and international levels; 
      6. Conducting public awareness programs on rights available under the intellectual property laws in force in the Maldives 
      7. Providing services required under intellectual property laws, and collecting prescribed fees for such services; 
      8. Carrying out any other responsibilities assigned to the Maldives Intellectual Property Office under this Act or other applicable intellectual property laws.
