We are pleased to announce the establishment of minimum wage in the Maldives with reference to policy no: 2/2008 (employment act) section 59: order establishing minimum wage or remuneration.
The Minister today has issued an order pursuant to the Employment Act to establish the first ever minimum wage in the Maldives. The minimum wage will be effective from 1st January 2022 and will be implemented based on business classification.
This will stimulate the growth and promote inclusive growth, while ensuring the livelihood of our workforce is improved.
