MIB enables transactions through Chinese Yuan from September 25

Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has paved the way for facilitating trade transactions with China.

According to MIB’s announcement today, starting from September 25, 2025, the opportunity to send and receive money in Chinese Yuan through the bank will be available.

MIB has requested to email [email protected] for further clarification on this matter.

While MIB has decided to arrange for Chinese Yuan financial transactions to be conducted, MIB co-sponsored a webinar specifically for small and medium enterprises in the Maldives titled “From Maldives to Global Markets – Unlocking E-commerce with Alibaba” in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Business Center Corporation (BCC) with Alibaba.com.

The webinar featured sessions on the Alibaba.com ecosystem, B2B cross-border e-commerce trends, core platform functions and benefits, as well as a live demonstration of seller operations. The program will assist SMEs to equip themselves with the tools and understanding to effectively leverage Alibaba.com for export growth and international visibility.

With the introduction of Alibaba.com seller accounts for Maldivians and the facilitation of Chinese Yuan transactions through MIB, new opportunities will open for Maldivian products to enter China—one of the world’s largest markets.
