The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Business Centre Corporation (BCC), in collaboration with Alibaba.com, hosted a webinar titled “From Maldives to Global Markets — Unlocking E-Commerce with Alibaba”, aimed at enhancing opportunities for Maldivian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in cross-border e-commerce.
The event, held today at Barcelo Nasandhura, provided Maldivian businesses with insights into the Alibaba ecosystem and practical knowledge to strengthen their participation in the global marketplace. This initiative also presents a significant opportunity for Maldivian online businesses to establish seller accounts on international e-commerce platforms-an important milestone aligned with the presidential pledges of H.E. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The webinar featured sessions on the Alibaba.com ecosystem, B2B cross-border e-commerce trends, core platform functions and benefits, as well as a live demonstration of seller operations. The program will assist SMEs to equip themselves with the tools and understanding to effectively leverage Alibaba.com for export growth and international visibility.

This groundbreaking initiative maximizes opportunities for our local creators by harnessing the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement alongside Alibaba’s massive global reach”, the Minister stated.
This collaboration with Alibaba.com marks a significant step in advancing the Government’s creative economy strategy, creating opportunities for Maldivian businesses to engage in digital trade and compete on a global scale and international markets.
Importantly, this is an opportunity for Maldivian online businesses to open seller accounts on international e-commerce platforms — one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledges.
