The Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Maldives (BML) has expressed gratitude to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed for their support towards the project BML to install ATMs in all the islands of Maldives, under the Government’s policy to ensure financial inclusion across all inhabited islands, enhancing access to banking services and fostering sustainable economic growth throughout the Maldives.

Speaking at the B. Maalhos ATM inauguration ceremony, Shareef noted that it is a historic day for B. Atoll as BML ATM services have now been extended to the remaining 10 islands in the atoll which did not have this service until today. He highlighted that this goal was achieved under President Dr. Muizzu’s special guidance to establish ATM service across all inhabited islands in the Maldives.

While it has been 25 years since ATM service was introduced in the Maldives, more than half of the inhabited islands do not have this service, and people must spend to travel to other islands to basic baking services, Shareef said.

“Because the situation was such, President of the Maldives H.E Dr. Mohamed Muizzu hoped for every atoll, every atoll to have the opportunity to participate in the financial system. Have access to basic banking whenever needed without having to travel. Therefore, last November, the President launched the “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM” project for the whole country and instructed us to complete the project as soon as possible”, Shareef said.

Additionally, Shareef expressed his gratitude to the President for prioritization and support to bring financial services closer to the people.

Shareef also thanked the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed for his close monitoring and assistance in the project.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Bank of Maldives signed the project agreement on 7 November 2024. Guided by the visionary leadership of President Dr. Muizzu, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade is committed to working to address the financial and economic challenges faced by the people of Maldives for a prosperous and sustainable economy.
