President expands the Ministry’s mandate and renames it as the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has renamed and expanded the mandate of the Economic Ministry to include transport, as part of a major Cabinet restructuring announced on April 14.

Under the new structure, the ministry is now titled Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, consolidating key sectors to improve coordination and service delivery.

The change forms part of a broader overhaul that reduced the Cabinet to 15 ministries, merging portfolios and streamlining government functions.

As part of the reforms, transport responsibilities have been integrated into the economic portfolio, while other sectors such as civil aviation have been reassigned to different ministries.
