President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Greater Malé Transport and Mobility Office as an agency under the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, pursuant to the authority vested in him by Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.
The establishment was announced in a Directive issued by the President’s Office today.
The office has been established to provide an urgent, coordinated response to the growing problem of traffic congestion in the Greater Malé region, brought about by the rising number of vehicles on its roads.
Operating under the guidance of a governing board, the office is tasked with formulating and implementing programmes, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ease traffic congestion; advising on the formulation of policies for a comprehensive solution to the congestion caused by the rising number of vehicles; and leading the modernisation of the region’s transport network, the development of parking infrastructure, and the identification and development of other modern mobility solutions.
As per Directive No. 13/2026, issued by the President’s Office today, the number 1142 has been assigned for all official correspondence with the Greater Malé Transport and Mobility Office.
