Minister Saeed: Bringing PayPal to Maldives is a Result of President Muizzu’s Firm Resolve and Government’s Efforts

Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has stated that introducing PayPal,  one of the world’s largest online payment platforms to the Maldives was a key presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and is now becoming a reality due to the government’s diligent efforts.

The Minister highlighted that the most significant challenge faced by Maldivian online entrepreneurs and freelancers has been the barriers to receiving foreign payments. He noted that addressing this issue is a top priority for President Muizzu. Following high-level discussions with relevant authorities in the United States, Minister Saeed revealed that PayPal has now begun to extend its cooperation to the Maldives.

As part of this initiative, the Minister confirmed that the government is swiftly proceeding with the necessary technical and administrative framework to enable Maldivians to receive funds via PayPal. This development is expected to create significant opportunities for young creators and small businesses in the Maldives to monetize their services in international markets.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policy reflects a critical step toward digitalizing the Maldivian economy and integrating it with global financial systems. The government anticipates that this move will increase foreign currency inflows and serve as a major catalyst for the country’s economic growth.
