Minister Saeed Inaugurates Services of the Addu Regional Free Zone

As a significant step towards the economic development of Addu City, the services of the “Addu Regional Free Zone” were officially inaugurated today by the Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, Mohamed Saeed.

Speaking at a special ceremony held today in Hithadhoo, Addu City, following the launch of the services, Minister Saeed stated that opportunities are now open for parties interested in leasing land within the Addu Regional Free Zone. He noted that this marks a major milestone in the efforts of the Government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to diversify the national economy and promote development across the atolls.

Highlighting the benefits of the Free Zone, the Minister said the area would provide opportunities for duty-free storage of goods. In addition, he noted that the Free Zone would facilitate the establishment of factories and manufacturing operations across various sectors, opening new economic opportunities for businesses in Addu that were previously unavailable.

The project forms part of the Government’s broader vision to develop Addu City into a major economic hub. The Free Zone is also expected to bring renewed momentum to businesses across the southern atolls.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Ali Ihusan, Deputy CEO of Maldives Ports Limited Mohamed Lamaan, senior Government officials, and representatives of institutions based in Addu City.
