STO begins selling 23 items added to the essential food list

Under the government’s policy to ensure basic food items are easily available to the general public at good prices, the State Trading Organization (STO) has started selling the 23 items added to the essential food list from today at good prices.

The Cabinet decided on September 10, 2025, to have STO import in bulk and sell in the market the ten most commonly imported types of fruits and vegetables to the Maldives, as well as some other commonly used food items.

Accordingly, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to have STO import and sell at good prices in the market the ten most commonly imported types of vegetables and ten types of fruits to the Maldives, in addition to chicken eggs, lentils, and coconuts.

In line with this decision, the 10 fruits that STO started selling today include: bananas, apples, oranges, limes, passionfruits, mangoes, papayas, watermelons, chilis, and grapes. Additionally, the 10 types of vegetables that STO started selling include onion, ginger, carrot, eggplant, potato, cabbage, pumpkin, spinach and garlic.

This will be a positive change implemented under the strong policy of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to ensure that essential food items needed by the people are available easily and at good prices.
