Ministry signs agreement with MTCC to build a Lacquer and Craftsmanship Training Centre in Thulhaadhoo

The Ministry of Economic Development & Trade and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) have signed today, an agreement to build a Lacquer and Craftsmanship Training Centre in Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo.

The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Economic Development and Trade, Uz. Abdulla Siyaz on behalf of the Ministry and the Managing Director of MTCC, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired), Ahmed Saudee signed on behalf of the company.

This initiative underscores President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to advance the creative economy and revive Maldivian heritage.

This training centre will include spaces for training traditional craftsmanship such as lacquer, handicraft, weaving, and woodworking.

This agreement was signed during the President’s ongoing tour of Baa Atoll’s inhabited islands.

This centre is being established in accodance with the Cabinet’s decision to establish a lacquer and handicraft training centre in B. Thulaadhoo, under the presidential pledge of the construction of a national level centre for lacquer and other Maldivian crafts.
