Why do I need to do this?

Follow this user guide if you need to register a copyright under your existing business or individual name.

Where can I apply for the service?

You can apply in person at MED <pop up street address>

How long will the process take?

Next day (Day 2) from date of application (Day 1) - not accounting for the time taken to review the item for copyright, which can vary considerably.

 

What are the fees and charges involved?

§  Registration fee of MVR 1,000.

 

Which documents do I need to submit?

Check for:

Copyright registration application form

§  All required fields filled correctly

§  Type of work specified

§  All documents listed in the application form are submitted

§  Signature of copyright owner

§  Seal (If applicant is a business)

Softcopy of copyright

§  Softcopy of copyright in relevant format

Registration fee

§  As per the Regulation.

 

How do I apply for the service?

Day 1:

1. Lodge application at counter.

2. If any information is missing, provide the required information.

If application is in order, Ministry will instruct to make payment and collect registration on the next day.

 

* If copyright cannot be approved, Ministry will inform you of the issue by phone and in writing.

 

Day 2:

3. If approved, receive invoice slip and make payment.

4. If approved, receive registration certificate of copyright, signed and stamped with official Ministry seal.

5. If rejected, receive official letter of decision.

What would I receive at the end of the process?

§  Copyright registration certificate

§  Letter of decision (as applicable)

 

 

Did you know:

§  The item for copyright should be your original work.

§  This registration by itself does not guarantee their patency over the copyrighted item, but rather facilitates the owner to prove their ownership.

§  Payment by cheque is acceptable only with bank guarantees.
